East Tennessee, approximately twenty miles northeast of Knoxville. A
growing community of neighbors nestled in the foothills of the Great
Smoky Mountains, Jefferson City offers a small town atmosphere with
all the amenities and entertainment of Knoxville, Pigeon Forge, and
Gatlinburg just a short drive away.
City is the retail center of Jefferson County, offering the greatest
variety of shopping and dining options. It also has the largest
population of all the municipalities in Jefferson County. Several
industries have recently located in Jefferson City, creating the
largest employment opportunities in the county.
In the heart of the Lakeway Area, Jefferson City is minutes from
Cherokee Lake and Douglas Lake. These TVA operated recreational facilities offer
excellent opportunities to sportsmen and fishermen, as well as campers and recreational
watercraft owners. Those interested in the great outdoors will find Jefferson City's
close proximity to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park an added benefit.
Local recreation includes parks, team sports, and several nearby
golf courses. Jefferson City has the only swimming pools in the
county, one of which is an indoor pool located at the Jefferson City
Community Center. The Community Center also has a full range of
fitness equipment, walking track, and a gymnasium. Various classes
and programs are available for all ages.

Civic pride in Jefferson City is reflected in the city's ongoing
efforts to build a better future, while striving to retain
meaningful connections to its past. In the last few years, Jefferson
City has seen a marked improvement in services, facilities, and
equipment, including a new City Center. Designed for efficiency and
easy access, the City Center campus contains City Hall, as well as
the fire (ISO Class 3) and police departments. Recently, plans to
construct a new 16,400 square foot public library on campus were
approved. Services from all departments have seen a big increases,
including new equipment and additional personnel. A complete
overhaul and remodel of Jefferson City's water treatment facility
was completed in 2013. The resulting increase in output will enable
future development, both residential and commercial. The Jefferson
City Downtown Committee is working hard to revitalize the historic
downtown to create economic stimuli and recreational opportunities.

City's second Annual Clean Up Day is Saturday, April 23. A
great day for yard work, tree care, and cleaning out the
garage. Get rid of those unused appliances and haul off the
trash. If you don't have a task to complete at your house,
volunteer to help clean up a public space or help with a
civic project. Community trash receptacles will be located
at FS&G Bank and Walmart.
